Smith Taylor win RIBA Traditional Architecture Group Award 2020

Timothy Smith and Jonathan Taylor have been awarded the RIBA Traditional Architecture Group’s inaugural Traditional Architecture Award 2020. The award is given in recognition of their education work which over the past ten years has been instilling the principles of traditional architecture into the next generation of architects. Their design studio is part of the only degree course in Europe to teach the principles and application of the classical language of architecture.  Alongside their classical architectural practice, since 2011 Timothy and Jonathan have taught the classical orders and their application to contemporary design at Kingston School of Art on the professionally accredited BA and subsequently MArch course, of which Timothy is the Director. Both partners are members of the Register research group, and are co-authors of our ‘Fragments’ publicaiton.

The work of their students has been exhibited in the UK and overseas and their graduates have gone on to work for noted traditional practices such as ADAM Architecture, Craig Hamilton, John Simpson, Ben Pentreath, Porphyrios Associates and Stanhope Gate as well as in non-traditional practices such at David Kohn Architects.
